Next time someone tells you that beer isn't good for you, you can tell them otherwise!
Portuguese gym-goers are now being urged to consume beer as part of a healthy diet in a campaign that has been launched by the nation's main association of producers of the beverage.

According to the Portuguese Association of Beer Producers, 20,000 fliers that outline the health benefits of drinking up to two bottles of brew a day will be handed out to patrons as they arrive at gyms in Lisbon and Oporto by Friday.

As said in a statement the goal is to "draw attention to some less well-known aspects of beer, such as its agricultural origins, its nutritional value and health benefits when drunk in moderation and responsibility."

The fliers will feature the image of a smiling young woman jumping rope beside a picture of a large glass of beer. They will point out that a 6 fluid ounce glass of beer has less calories than a quarter pint cup of sugarless orange juice or a glass of milk of similar size.

They read: "Forget the myth of the 'beer gut' because it is just that: a myth." In addition, it adds that beer is a good source of magnesium and fiber and also helps to prevent diabetes, dementia, cholesterol, and osteoporosis.
