You may think that being drunk in a bar doesn't constitute public drunkenness. But, according to the state of Texas, it does. In fact, you could be arrested for it.
According to a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission spokeswoman, undercover agents have been sent to bars in Texas to arrest people for being drunk. Carolyn Beck of the Commission said that the first sting was recently conducted in a suburb of Dallas. There, agents went into 36 bars, arresting 30 people for being publicly intoxicated.
Beck has said that the goal is to hold those who are drunk prior to leaving the bar, so they don't leave and do something dangerous, such as driving drunk."We feel that the only way we're going to get at the drunk driving problem and the problem of people hurting each other while drunk is by crackdowns like this," said Beck.
"There are a lot of dangerous and stupid things people do when they're intoxicated, other than get behind the wheel of a car," she added, also stating, "People walk out into traffic and get run over, people jump off of balconies trying to reach a swimming pool and miss."
Beck also stated that these operations will continue throughout Texas. Be careful, you never know when this will happen in your state.
