Instead of wondering whether you have illegitimate children running around unknowingly, a new over-the-counter DNA paternity test can provide that one night stand hottie with an answer--if she can track you down. Identigene, a Salt Lake City genetics company has released an at-home paternity test, giving mothers a quick answer (and impending fathers a heart attack).

As of March, the DNA paternity test wilsells at Rite Aid stores across the country for $29.99, plus $119.99 for lab-processing fees. Unsure mothers swab the inside of their child's mouth - and the mouth of the suspected father - then send the swabs to Salt Lake City for testing. Three to five days later, customers can log on to a secure Web site to view the results. The company discards the DNA after six months, but keeps the results on file for five years.

The collection kit includes cotton swabs, containers for the samples and envelopes addressed to the lab. Experts say the test is about 99 percent accurate. Over 60 percent of the buyers of the kit are woman and most are in their 20s, so if you hear an unsupecting knock at the door, it could be that one night stand from spring break. However, if you live in NY, state law says DNA testing has to be court-ordered or prescribed by a doctor, so you might be in the clear.
