When most of us think about college, we remember partying, sleeping in, drinking, hooking up and probably not much having to do with the finer points of education. Despite the amount of time most undergraduates spend focused on the opposite sex, they apparently still have a great deal to learn about them. That's why the University of Sioux Falls is offering a new course on dating.
The course, 'Finding Dates Worth Keeping, will begin in February, and will give students one full academic credit. Laurie Chaplin, who has not only been married for 28 years, but is also a licensed therapist, as well as a relationships counselor, is set to teach the course.
'Some people may think it's a slack course, but I think they'll come out with something that changes their lives,' explained Chaplin. 'We go to college and get an education. But our love relationships impact us more than anything else.' She also added that young adults today are 'working harder to get smarter about their mates, and that they also want to get into lifelong relationships.'
Not only will the course help the dating challenged to find a perfect mate, but it will also help them learn when they are infatuated, and when the best time is to throw in the towel. 'Sometimes it's much more loving and smart to break up, said Chaplin. So far it looks like this is the only college offering this course. But, who knows, if it's really popular, maybe colleges everywhere will start it, too.
