It used to be that late night television was pretty lame. You know what we meanold B movies, infomercials, and more Golden Girls re-runs than anyone needs to see. Well, that's all changed and now there's lots of funny, edgy and just plain weird stuff on late night TV. In case you've been missing it, be sure to check out G4's late, late night and you'll see what we mean.

You may think of G4 as being a channel that talks mostly about gaming news, trends, gear, etc. But, as they say themselves, "weeknights at midnight just got a little darker" thanks to their new Midnight Spank lineup. The week starts off with Monday at midnight with Brainiac, followed by G4's Late Night Peep Show at 12:30.

Brainiac is a science show of sorts that challenges you to try your hand at different experiments that mix together science and stunts. The show originated in the UK but don't look for serious scientific experiments here, a lot of what you see is all about the fun.

G4's Late Night Peep Show, which is on in the slot that used to house the Happy Tree Friends & Friends show, pushes the envelope of strangeness with its animation shorts. Be warned, this is not your little sister's cartoon show. It's definitely an adult-only kind of animation!

Banzai fills the Tuesday spot at midnight and 12:30. This interactive program (our favorite) spoofs Japanese gameshows by using funny characters and odd games. Think MXC but way better. To play along, you have to register on G4's website. Correct answers will get you points, while wrong answers will see them taken away. Each week point leaders are listed on the site's Banzai Hall of Champions. So, what are some of the segments to bet on? Egg eating contests, guessing how long it will take an object to hit the ground after being dropped from a roof, and grannies playing chicken, but not with cars, with motorized wheelchairs, just to name a few.

Wednesdays and Fridays are all about Cheaters and Ed the Sock's Night Party. You know Cheaters, right? It's the show that used to give you the afro-sporting, all-in-black-wearing Tommy Grand, but is now hosted by the just as funny-looking Joey Greco. If you haven't seen it, people ask to have their significant other followed to see if he/she is cheating. Of course they are, so the footage is shown to the heartbroken person who then gets to confront the cheater. It's like a car accident you just can't stop watching! You can see it at midnight each Wednesday and at 12:30 each Friday.

Ed the Sock's Night Party, Wednesdays at 12:30 and Fridays at midnight, has been around a long time. The show originally debuted on a Toronto cable access channel in 1987. Apparently it's popular, because it made its way onto the Midnight Spank lineup. Ed the Sock, and his sexy, red-headed co-host Liana K., offer up eye candy, hilarity, and a healthy dose of the lewd and crude. If the half-naked babes and/or the comedy don't pique your interest, at least try it for Liana!

Last, but certainly not least is Thursday's Cinematech NE. On at both midnight and 12:30, Cinematech NE is definitely worth seeing. Here you'll get to see stuff that was just too damned sexy or dark to make it into theaters, onto TV, or into video games. If the Silent Hill movie clip on G4's website is any indication of what you'll see on the show, we can say it's a show you won't want to miss.

So, next time you find yourself up at midnight, and aimlessly flipping through the channels, tune into G4's Midnight Spank every night @ midnight and see what the buzz is all about.
