Vacations are usually fun, but they can also be boring as hell, depending on where you go. Not interested in hanging out with your girlfriends parents this spring? We have a solution for you. Finland is known for its beautiful women, but there is also a vacation spot located there that has everyone talking, the Hotel & Igloo Village Kakslauttanen.
Our agents discovered this unconventional hotel in Lapland, Finland that allows its guests to stay in real igloos. Located about 100 miles to the north of the Arctic Circle, you'll get a chance to stay in a thermal glass igloo or in a more traditional igloo that has been constructed out of snow blocks.
If you choose the glass igloo, which has been built with a special glass that keeps the place toasty, you'll get the luxury amenities of a bed, toilet, and a spectacular view of the outside world. But, if you can see out, you can be sure that your neighbors can see in. So that means, unless you are an exhibitionist, you'll have to keep the naughty stuff in check. However, if you are a voyeur, this might very well be your winter wonderland.
If you opt for the traditional snow igloo, you'll have a little more privacy since the walls aren't see-through. If you like living the good life, this igloo is not for you. There is no bed and we could not find any mention of a toilet either, however, to ease your pain, you will be given wool socks, a hood and a down sleeping bag.
There are saunas close to the igloos and the brave (or insane) can even try their hand at ice swimming. If you prefer to stay clothed, the hotel offers snowshoeing, skiing and even survival training. Open from January to April, the igloo village also offers a bar made of ice and the World's largest snow restaurant. Since it gets dark here sooner, you can start your happy hour earlier and spend the rest of the night figuring out inventive ways to stay warm. (If you hit the ice bar early, we recommend avoiding the village Ice Chapel).
