It's the first date and it's going well, but you're getting closer and closer to that inevitable goodbye, where no matter how hard either of you try, you're going to share some uncomfortable exchange and pleading grins. We're all adults here, so why do we all act like awkward school kids when it comes to the first kiss? Here's how to make it a little less awkward and a little more magical.
If you've already decided to go for it, don't waste time making idle chat while she fumbles for her keys. Hesitating will only make the moment more uncomfortable for the both of you. Spontaneity will give both of you less time to get nervous and clumsy. If you're nervous about going in for the kill, hug her first, but pull away slowly and brush your cheek against hers until you make eye contact, then slide in for the kiss. This establishes a connection before the kiss and cuts the distance you have to travel.
As you lean in, maintain eye contact and tilt your head, slightly, to one side. Try not to close your eyes until your lips meet. She should be following your lead, so if you lean to one side and you still bump noses, it's on her. Be gentle and don't go in for the kill just yet. If she wants more, you'll know. Pull away just slightly and see how she reacts. If she leans in again, meet her for another kiss.
If you get to a second kiss you're past the hard part. The ice has been broken giving you more flexibility to explore. Continue to be gentle and follow her lead. Do not shove your tongue in her mouth unless she initiates it. You might have gotten to the second kiss, but that doesn't mean she wants you groping her, just yet, on her front porch. Be the first to call it quits. This shows her that you're in control and will leave her wanting more.
The first kiss doesn't always have to come at the end of the date. If you're sitting on her couch watching a movie, this is a great time to feel her out. Take her hand, wrap your arm around her or stroke her hair and see how she reacts. If she smiles or leans into you, you can be pretty sure she's into where this is going. Once you make eye contact, lean in for the kill (and the kiss).
