You go to the office day in and day out, seeing the same people for at least eight hours each day. Since some jobs don't leave much extra time for a life outside of the office, including time for romance, a lot of people manage to find love or lust with their co-workers, the cute girl in the mailroom, or even their boss.
For starters, office romances are easy and convenient (did we mention the mailroom?). But, it is common knowledge that if you aren't prepared to deal with the consequences, you might have a lot of crap to deal with if the relationship doesn't last.
1. Dating your boss.
So many things can go wrong with this scenario. First, if the relationship goes sour, you may find yourself demoted, demoralized, or even out of a job. Or, in some extreme cases, she may be so pissed at you she falsely files sexual harassment claims just to see your ass fry. If your co-workers find out what you're doing, you may become the hot topic of the office. Don't be surprised when rumors circulate about your, um, job performance.
As long as you keep things casual or to the point where you both understand and agree on the risks, there can also be some major perks. Lunch hours and breaks can be extended to accommodate fun office sex. You may get that promotion you always wanted. Or, you may find yourself with a hell of a raise, in more ways than one.
Tip: If you find out she is a psycho, you can always use the sexual harrassment in your favor.
2. Dating your co-worker.
When dating a co-worker, there can be a lot of interesting perks. Since you work together, you get the chance to see her on a daily basis. You can easily make plans if you have the same work hours and, if you want, you can slip into any empty room for a quickie during breaks.
But, there are also some pitfalls. Since you work together, you see her on a daily basis. Spending too much time together can drive anyone crazy after a while. Also, if you and your co-worker break up, you'll have to deal with seeing her, and in some cases, working closely with her, each and every day.
3. Dating a client.
This can be a sweet deal if you are able to bring some good business to your company. Just think of how good it will look for you come raise/promotion time. But, if things don't work out, she may decide to take her business elsewhere so she doesn't have to deal with you. If that happens, you'll actually cost your company money and maybe even cost yourself your job.
If your company has a strict office policy about not dating co-workers and clients, then you might be asking for trouble by dipping your pen in the company ink. If you are a rebel, then good luck and happy dipping.
