It doesn't matter if you call him Mark Wahlberg or Marky Mark. The only thing that matters is that if he is in the film, it is going to kick ass. From the tri-pod pornstar in Boogie Nights to his Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of a badass detective in The Departed, Mark Wahlberg constantly delivers entertaining and exciting films. Shooter is no exception and will not disappoint. The film, which is due out March 23, 2007, also stars Michael Pena, Danny Glover, Elias Koteas, Rade Serbedzija, Ned Beatty and the sexy Kate Mara and Rhona Mitra.

Directed by Training Day's Antoine Fuqua, Shooter is the story of an ex-marine who is framed for an assassination attempt on the president. Wahlberg stars as Bob Lee Swagger, a gifted former marine scout sniper who, since his retirement, has been living in a remote hideaway in the mountains. When Danny Glover's character Isaac Johnson, a retired colonel, explains that Swagger's expertise is needed in order to save the life of the president, Swagger is persuaded to answer the call of duty one last time. But as the plot turns, Swagger goes from the country's last hope to the most hunted man in America. With only the help of a random woman (Kate Mara), Swagger must try to prove his innocence while also eluding every major governmental agency.

Fuqua is again successful in creating a visually pleasing and stimulating film with Shooter. Not since the Jason Bourne movies have we seen a film that can captivate an audience from the opening credits to the final word like this film. If you are looking for action, check. If you are searching for an enthralling story, look no further. If you just want to spend a couple of hours watching a bad ass run around with hot women on camera, this movie has that too. The only disappointing thing about this film is that The Funky Bunch never shows up.

Convince your date to see this movie by promising that Wahlberg will be shirtless in a number of scenes. Just don't be offended when she is calling you Swagger later that night in the heat of passion.
