We cannot count how many nights we turned off the lights, powered up the Xbox, and paid a visit to the eerie town of Silent Hill. Not only was it scary and fun to play, but it was so friggin' addicting! We love the game so much we couldn't contain our excitement when we heard the popular video game would be adapted for the big screen.
From the looks of the trailer, the movie seems to follow closely to the game. For those of you who haven't played, here's a quick synopsis:
Rose is a mother who just can't accept her sick daughter's (Sharon's) diagnosis. Against her husband's wishes, she takes off with Sharon in order to take her to a faith healer. Along the way she finds herself in the deserted, and very eerie town of Silent Hill, a portal in reality. While there, Sharon disappears and Rose has to find her.
The town is nothing she has ever seen before, shrouded in a thick fog and inhabited by very strange creatures. She is eventually joined by Cybil, a cop who has been sent to find and bring mother and daughter back home. There are lots of twists and turns, and you won't know just what's real and what's pure evil.
Radha Mitchell, who plays Rose, is definitely worth a look in this movie. The Australian-born actress is hot. You may not know her name, but you've probably seen her before in Pitch Black, Phone Booth, Man on Fire, and the more recent Finding Neverland. Trust us, after this movie you won't be able to forget her.
Even though the movie has been adapted from a game, you'll be surprised to learn there is hardly any CGI used, other than for the fog. All the creatures Rose encounters are real actors.
Another fun fact is that the script originally contained only female characters. After it was submitted, it was returned to director Christophe Gans with a note stating, "there are no men!" The script was approved after Rose's husband, played by Sean Bean, was added.
Silent Hill is set to hit theaters on 4-21-06. If you want to learn more about it before then, you have to check out Sony's Silent Hill website. There are tons of features on there, making it almost seem as if you are playing a video game instead of surfing the site. Make sure to look for hidden pics and things to do throughout the site. Just move your mouse around until your cursor lands on something clickable. Click on it and see where it takes you. You might just enter Silent Hill yourself.
