It isn't just a stereotype that men watch a lot more sports than women; In fact, on average, men watch 8-hours of televised sports a week, compared to just over 3-hours for women. Monday night football alone grabs 1 woman to every 2 men, but, there is one national sporting event every year that grabs equal attention on both sides of the gender spectrum---the Super Bowl.
This year, throw the best gender unbiased Super Bowl party ever and make it the event of the year. Stats claim that 65 percent of all adults watch the Super Bowl; 73 percent men and 57 percent women. Invite your friends and tell them to wear their favorite team's gear. If they don't have a favorite professional football team; have them wear their favorite college sports team or their alumni garb.
On average, there are 17 people at any given super bowl party and all of these parties add up to excessive food consumption. Americans eat 14,500 tons of chips and 8 million pounds of guacamole on Super Bowl Sunday. While chips and dips are football staples, adding other small luxuries will make everyone happy. Pick up a variety of cheeses and crackers, deli meat and various other finger foods like taquitos, mini quiches and buffalo wings.
Tap a keg. Major beer companies report that Americans guzzle 10.5 million barrels of beer during Super Bowl Sunday. For those who don't like the sauce, make sure to provide non-alcoholic beverages as well. Before the game begins, have everyone write down who they think will win and guess the final score. Whoever comes closest to the actual score wins a prize. Consider buying football related prizes or ask everyone to throw in $5 and the winner can take home the loot.
DUIs and alcohol related collisions rise 40 percent on the night of Super Bowl. Make sure you have a designated driver on hand or call a cab. Or you can designate a key master to take everyone's keys when they first arrive at your house, so that you don't have to deal with idiots who think they can drive. Just be sure to have some couches and beds for them to crash on.
