April is in full swing, and that means so is baseball season. Nothing beats going to the ballpark on a warm spring day and yelling obscenities at the opposing team when they do well, and at your team when they screw up. While baseball has the reputation of being expensive for the spectators, there are a few great deals in parks across the country for those of us who don't mind semi-slumming it. Seats so cheap you can bring a date and have money left over for lap dances when she ditches you for Derek Jeter.
If you find yourself in Baltimore on a Friday, Camden Yards boasts five dollar seats for college students with a student ID. The sections reserved for college students are in the upper deck, but filled with the fun debauchery which accompanies college kids everywhere they go. If you are looking for a more family friendly experience, The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (easily the most annoying name in all of sports) have five dollar seats in the left field family pavilion.
Possibly the most affordable park in Baseball is the San Diego Padres Petco Park. Petco has five different ticket options for under ten dollars. For five dollars, you can get the park pass, which allows you to walk around the stadium, sit in the lawn section located in left field, or access the restaurant that over looks the game. If you get there early enough, you can put your name in for a reservation from the fourth inning on and sit on the balcony overlooking the field. There you can wine and dine your date to the sounds of Cotton Eyed Joe.
The best part of the new stadiums that are springing up in every baseball city is that there is not a bad seat in the house. Even if you are stranded in far left field, the new designs make it seem like you are on top of the game, so your date won't know that you spent all of 12 bucks on her for this magical evening. But regardless of how cheap the seats might be, you are still staring eight dollar beers in the face as soon as you walk through the gate. So, if you are planning on taking a date, you will either have to pregame something fierce or plan on taking it easy during the game. And there is always plenty of time to lower her standards with booze after the last pitch.
