Have you noticed lately that you've packed on a few extra pounds, but just can't seem to figure out where they came from? You think you eat right and get a good amount of exercise, but, still, the weight keeps piling on.
If this sounds like you, you're not alone. It looks like a lot of people think they are living a healthy lifestyle, when they are really just living the life of gluttony. A national health firm has recently conducted a survey of 11,000 overweight Americans and found that 75% of them feel they eat healthy. 40% of the same group also felt they enjoyed vigorous exercise. Sadly, considering they are overweight, something just didn't add up.
Dr. Leena Khaitan, a co-director of Bariatrics at Emory who performs weight loss surgery and helps patients change their eating habits, had something to say about the results. She didn't feel that the results were wrong, but that the participants had an inaccurate perception of their eating and exercising habits.
'I can tell you almost every patient, most of my patients who come to see me for surgery, feel they're eating well and doing some of the things they're supposed to, they're exercising. She also added, 'I think they're scared to admit it, that they're not doing things right, then there's the blame game, I'm doing it right, what's wrong?
If you feel as if this info hits a little too close to home, the best thing to do is see a doctor to find out if your lifestyle is healthy, or if you need to reevaluate just what you're doing.
